2017 Deidesheimer Mäushöhle Riesling - Dry

In the 2017 vintage the Mäushöhle is an exceptional wine, fermented in double barrels and aged for 14 months on the full lees. Notes of concentrated fruit power balanced with immense juiciness and a long enticing finish.

The VDP.Erste Lage is most easily compared to the French Premier Cru classification in Burgundy. VDP.Erste Lage consist of dry Rieslings from top, classified vineyard locations. From the yields and the development, our VDP.Erste Lage hardly differs from a Grosses Gewachs, the only difference is the individual location of the vineyards.

Soil:
Red sandstone dominates the site here. However, the vineyard rests in a recess located at the exit of the valley opening to the east. Due to the erosion of the forest floor the soil in the Mäushöhle vineyard is very potent enriched with humus, which explains the density of the wine.
