2018 REITERPFAD "In der Hohl" Riesling GG

Since the 2014 vintage, we have again been producing a Grand Cru in the Premier Cru “In der Hohl”. Despite the relatively small area of the Reiterpfad plot we have decided to develop our two vineyards, “Hofstück” and “In Der Hohle”, separately in order to reflect the difference in the terroir character. In contrast to the Reiterpfad “Hofstück”, the Reiterpfad “In der Hohl” presents itself with a refined yellow fruit and slight minterality.

Soil:
Millions of years ago, where the western border of our vineyards now sit, there was a huge collapse of the Rhine Rift Valley. Here, layer upon layer, the sea deposited its sediments. Later the mountains of the Haardt rose up and a calcareous sedimentary deposit became visible. Today, it is this sediment deposit combined with the plots’ microclimate that provides the soil with its unique composition in turn making this wine so special. The walls around the plot protect the vineyard against late frost and help provide natural shade in the summer creating the distinctively subtle acidic structure found in Reiterpfad.
