The 2018 Paradiesgarten was put on racks and bottled in early February, after 17 months. The quantity is very small with only 3,000 bottles. Notes of brioche, toasted hazelnuts, bright citrus, a hint of banana and packed full with flint. A great wine with enormous ageing potential.
The VDP.Erste Lage is most easily compared to the French Premier Cru classification in Burgundy. VDP.Erste Lage consist of dry Rieslings from top, classified vineyard locations. From the yields and the development, our VDP.Erste Lage hardly differs from a Grosses Gewachs, the only difference is the individual location of the vineyards.
Soil:
At an altitude of 120-170 meters, the Paradiesgarten stretches in a south-easterly direction from the edge of the Haardt towards Deidesheim. Its weathered soils of red and yellow-red sandstone are the reason for the fineness and balance of its wines. Our parcel in the Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten is located below the Deidesheimer Langenmorgen site and was considered part of Langenmorgen until 1971. For this reason, until 2012, Reischrat von Buhl’s Paradiesgarten was marketed as a VDP.Grosses Gewächs. We have decided to end this special status and now market the wine as VDP.Erste Lage.
